A programme page is not an open vacancy
An institution may keep a fellowship description online between recruitment cycles. An old application form, former fellow profile or search result can establish that a programme existed without confirming that it is accepting applications now. Start with the official programme page, then follow its current vacancy notice or application portal.
Record the intake year, start date, application deadline and timezone separately. If a deadline lacks a year, do not attach the current year by assumption. If no closing date is published, use current intake unconfirmed unless the host explicitly confirms rolling admission.
Follow an evidence sequence
- Check the programme description for a current recruitment statement.
- Compare dates with the official vacancy, form or application portal.
- Confirm that the application route names the same programme and institution.
- Resolve conflicting dates through the published coordinator or admissions office.
- Save the source URL and the date you checked it; a verification date describes your check, not a guarantee of future availability.
Ask for the missing facts
A concise enquiry can ask whether the next intake is recruiting, which start date it covers, the deadline with timezone, and the official application link. Include your training stage and intended year if these affect eligibility. A response confirming an intake should not be interpreted as confirmation that you personally meet all entry conditions.
Recruitment notices and award rounds can change. The RCS England travel-award page explicitly notes that its grants and fellowships are reviewed annually. Treat that as an example of why cycle-specific evidence matters rather than a deadline rule for other programmes.
Questions to take to the programme
- Which start date and intake year does this notice cover?
- What is the deadline, timezone and official submission route?
- Is rolling admission explicitly confirmed, or is the date simply missing?
